Half Way There...

WIP Imperial Fists 29 April 2012 As it stands now, 34 out of 68 chaps I have lined up to build are built and primed -- on top of a Deadknight, Coteaz, and two Rhinos for my son. Another 34 await the assembly line. Woo whoo, the half way point!!! The good news (for me) is that I have press-molded the shoulder pads for nearly all of the batch ahead... that has proven to be an annoyingly slow process. Honestly, it's probably not one I would repeat unless the painted results turn out to be stunning (which I am not convinced of...)

WIP Imperial Fists 29 April 2012 My timing couldn't have been better to get motivated to get these all done -- "SUMMER IS COMING" (he says in a not very believable Game of Thrones paraody...) In true Riyadh fashion, yesterday was our first 100 deg (Fahrenheit) day of the year, and today was 104... looks like the window to prime models without incurring brain damage from spray painting indoors will be closed here in about another two weeks... best get cranking!!!

WIP Imperial Fists 29 April 2012 A few of my favorites are the Mk II helmet with Melta, the Mk III Sergeant with the old-school Power fist, and the running, clenched fist Melta gunner.

In this last shot are my two Devastator Sergeants, a Mk V Sergeant, and another view of my running Melta dude. You can see from these two shots that I have press-molded a FIST icon onto about one in three torsos.

More soon... I hope...

Kids, don't draw on the monitor . . . oh . . . wait?!?

I am SOOOOOOOO excited.  There is only one WACOM reseller here in Saudi who stocks the Cintiq 24HD -- probably the coolest illustration device EVER -- and they just called me to let me know that someone cancelled their pre-order, and I can pick up my Cintiq tomorrow!!!

Funny, when I looked for a picture of someone using one to put here in the blog, I never imagined I'd find a dude with exactly my hair cut . . .  ;-)

Slow But Steady . . .

Progress continued (at a snail slow pace) over the weekend on our Pre-Heresy Imperial Fists force.

With a combination of Mk II, Mk III, and Mk V armor in the ranks thus far, I have approx 30 SMurfs built and primed.  I also got one of Dayton's two Dreadknights built, along with Inquisitor Coteaz.

Hopefully this week will see me get the rest of the Power Armored Marines completed, which will include 10 Mk IV Armored Sternguard with combi-meltas.  I decided to use the F/W combi-meltas from their Termie weapon pack for these.

The Sons of Dorn are Born!

Other than making poor attempts at rhyming, I am making a strong attempt at getting a batch of Imperial Fists built and primed. Unlike my friend Mike who got a Necron army built, primed, and painted in 24 hours, I don't seem to be able to get more than 5 guys built nightly.

Here are the first group...

And here you can see why this has been taking so long. Every shoulder pad is getting a press-molded Fists icon. Most guys are getting reposed arms (thanks for shipping exactly ONE arm pose for each Mk of armor ForgeWorld!) And, most guys are taking quite some time to prep (thanks to the "high quality" casting done by F/W.)

Last shot for this post... you can see I *am* actually making a bit of progress toward getting 30 Tacs, 10 Devs, 5 Sergeants, 10 Terminators, and two Land Raiders done. ;-)

A Minor Detour

I've taken a minor detour away from the Pre-Heresy Thousand Sons to knock out something that I can put on the table at the upcoming War Games Con 2012 Tournament in June... a Pre-Heresy Imperial Fists contingent!

I have 30 Mk 3 Power Armour Marines, 5 of F/W's new Terminators, and a slew of other goodies to put together a force that *could* end up on the table at 2000 pts, but will *definitely* be my force in the Team Tournament.

Pictures soon!

Making Progress

Slowly, but slowly, I am making progress on my P/H Project. Here's what I have on my plate:

  • Designing/converting a custom shoulder pad for my troops for these guys to set them apart
  • Converting the P/H Contemptors to Thousand Sons "Dreadknights"
  • Finishing the Terminator Conversions
  • Sculpting "fire" effects for the Terminators with PsyCannons
  • Converting a Magnus model to serve as my "Draigo"

Huh, that's it?!? Small potatoes!!!
